thrifty tuesdays: DIY skirted desk

yesterday i completed my DIY skirted desk!
i really feel like my office is starting to come together.

the skirt was simple but time consuming.
it took me about 4 hours.

supplies:

*3 yards of fabric (i decided not go to with the burlap)
*1 pkg of quilt binding (3 yards)
*velcro
*glue gun*
sewing machine
*iron

tutorial:

1. measure length and width of desk and cut fabric into 3 appropriate sizes.
2. iron fabric
3. sew hems on all 4 sides of each fabric piece
4. lay flat the front fabric piece
5. cut and lay-out quilt binding in desired design.
6. iron quilt binding pieces
7. place ironed quilt binding on front piece.
8. glue quilt binding to fabric.

i then adhered pieces of velcro to the desk and the fabric.
it seems to be holding perfectly and can easily be removed.

total cost: $14.00
$4.00 over budget, oops!

so here is my office $32.00 ago:

and after a couple coats of paint, DIY sunburst mirror, and a DIY skirted desk:

so much better!

i also hung a yellow mirror i wasn't using behind the computer.
i am thinking of making it a cork board.

the next project on my list...

i still plan on keeping them as file storage but i need something with a little more style.
maybe stripes?

900 sq. ft at it's finest, yes that is my front door :)

happy february!
